- The Yoga Loft is located in the vibrant Uptown area of Halifax, about 10 minutes walk from Spring Garden Road, on the harbour side of the Commons, just off North Park Street.
- The neighborhood is alive with new development, old historical buildings, artists, holistic health practitioners, vibrant small businesses, great places to eat and shop, and the wonderful Commons itself.
- Take a picture tour with us.
Welcome to our Community

- If you are driving up from downtown, turn right at Cogswell Street and Gottingen Street.
- Cornwallis Street is the first left and we are up near the Commons on the right at No 5663.

- The corner of Cogswell and Gottingen already has some great amenities:

- You can go to the Centennial Swimming Pool.

- You can also pop into the Propeller Brewery and pick up some of the best local micro-beers.
- You can also go to Staples next door.

- Further along Gottingen Street, there is the famous Good Food Emporium (formerly Bob and Lori's Food Emporium), which must be one of the most under-rated places to eat in Halifax.
- The fishcakes are amazing; you have to pop in and try them.
- They are open Monday to Friday during the day.
- Pick up a loaf of their homemade wholewheat bread too while you're there.

- Halifax Backpackers and Alteregos cafe has a become a popular place to hang out for coffee, read, and chat.
- It's just a few steps along the street from The Good Food Emporium.

- Across the street, The Company House provides a venue for some of the best alternative music talent in Halifax.

- On the harbour end of Cornwallis Street, between Gottingen and Brunswick Street, you'll find the famous round church of St. Georges.
- The interior architecture is amazing, as are the Christmas carol concerts.

- As your move up the other way on Cornwallis Street, towards the Commons, you find the beautiful mural of Halifax harbour on the side of the Maricor Building.

- Then across the street at the corner of Cornwallis and Creighton, you'll find the multiple Best of Halifax winning cornerstore of Joe Tomeh and his wonderful family.
- The store has almost anything you need after most other places are closed, but the best reason to go there is the Tomeh's themselves.

- Then a bit further up on the right you have the Yoga Loft Building, which is actually called the Regal Building, after Regal Stationary, which used to have a factory there.
- It is just about the last warehouse in Halifax and is a treasure with its original hardwood floors and interior brick walls.
- Before Regal Stationary, the warehouse was owned by Schwart's, who stored peppers there.
- The Yoga Loft is on the top floor, overlooking the street.

- There is a lot of beautiful architecture in the neighborhood around Falkland Street.
- Above is on the corner of Falkland and Maynard; note the rooftop patios.

- Above is at the corner of Falkland and Creighton, where yard sales happen nearly every weekend during the summer and the most interesting and thought provoking art is regularly placed in the windows.

- On Falkland itself, these narrow row houses above always catch your attention.
- The colours and the style are striking; it reminds you of St. John's Newfoundland in a reserved, Halifax kind of way!

- New condo and apartment buildings have been going up around the neighborhood in the last few year.
- Everyone is waiting to see how this one at the corner of Gottingen and Falkland will look when its finished.
The Halifax Farmers Market.
- The Farmers Market is not in our neighborhood but it is close to our heart and intrinsically part of our lives.
- We wanted to give you a brief tour and point out some of the highlights in a place that is really all highlights.
- It's open on Saturdays from 7am - 1pm.

- Above you have John (left) and Luke Dalton of Big Life Wholefoods.
- Their homemade Pizza must be the Best of Halifax, even though it doesn't get the vote every year.
- They also have wheat free pizza crusts that you can take home and make your own pizza with if you have a wheat allergy.
- Their Cinnamon rolls are a legend!

- Another great place to get gluten free foods is at Gluten Free Goodies.
- Jen (pictured above) and Aidan created this wonderful business after Aidan was diagnosed with a gluten allergy.
- They do all the cooking themselves, and their products include gluten-free granola, muffins, cookies, and the most delicious gluten-free brownies you have ever tasted!
- A range of pre-cooked gluten-free pasta dishes are on the way soon.
- You can find them next to Little Dorset Farms and the Halifax Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, at the market in the cafeteria in the Centennial Building at the VG Hospital from 9am-2pm on Fridays, and at the Lunenberg Farmers Market on Thursdays.
- You can also find more delicious gluten-free foods at the YWCA Immigrant Womens Program.
- They are located just off the main courtyard as you head towards Mary's Bread Basket.
- The veggie Empanadas made with corn tortillas are yummy!

- Mike's Fish Shop is pictured above.
- The staff are super-friendly and Mike gets the fish in fresh from the boats one or two days before the market.

- The market is full of the freshest organic produce.
- Above you have Norbert Kungl's stand in the main courtyard.

- If you love bread you have to check out the two European bakeries at the market.
- There is La Vendienne and Julien's Bakery.
- Julien's also has a cafe at the Hydrostone Market at the Gottingen and Young Street.

- The Farmers Market is also a great place to find fresh flowers as well as bedding plants, depending on the time of year
Coffee Shops
- There are some great coffee shops in Halifax, where you can go to work, hang out with friends, or just read and take in the energy of the people there.

- Above is Steve-O-Reno's on Brunswick Street by the library.
- There is also a Steve's at the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings and a drive through on Robie Street.
- We love Steve and Rita!
- Rita is also an amazing artist.

- The Second Cup on Spring Garden Road gets special affection from us.
- We really like the staff, who are the friendlist people in the world and the service is always excellent.
- They have the best conversation skills of any coffee shop you'll go to!
- It's really spacious too and they have wireless internet.
- Pop in and say hello from us and see Chris who is the manager.

- The Paperchase on Blowers Street (above) has the advantage of a newspaper and magazine store right below it.
- The view out from the front is really great on a summer's day if you like to people watch.
